I don't know if any other moms have this problem, but it's like pulling teeth to get someone (Lee) to take my picture. There is seriously 1 picture of me with the kids for every 50,000 without. Not that I love getting my picture taken, but I'm worried that when they look back at their childhood photos, they are going to think that I was never there. I'm ALWAYS here, with my little nose behind the camera. I have been thinking about enrolling both Lee and I in a photography class so we can both take better pics, plus it would be so fun to be in a class with him! This one WAS taken by Lee. He saw me trying to balance kids in my lap with one hand and hold the camera far enough away with the other hand to get us all in the picture, it wasn't working out so well. Luckily he came to the rescue. Thanks Lee, smooch!

Here is little "Belly" having some lovely outdoor discovery time. I found 2 whole leaves from our Ash tree in her diaper the other day. She puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. I heard Isaac say "baby no flufflie" last week, and for a moment I wondered what he was talking about. I soon discovered moth wings stuck to her chin. Flufflie = Butterfly in Isaacese, which apparently also means moth. It reminded me of when my mom found my brother Andrew eating dead flies from the window sill thinking they were raisins. Sorry, I hope none of you are eating while you read this! Itty Bitty is trying to be a good sport, though she did claw Belly's face a couple days ago.
This little monster has been driving me batty. How can someone so stinkin' adorable be so stinkin' stinky? He locked me out of the house today as I had my arms full of groceries, purse, Belly, and car clutter. I knocked and yelled and knocked and yelled, and finally peeked in the front window where he was playing with my handmade dolls and laughing at me. The angrier I got, the harder he laughed. Luckily the back door was open, which it usually is locked with a shower curtain rod wedged in the sliding door to prevent late night Isaac escapes. I have no clue how to discipline this kid! What do you do with a naughty boy who is laughing at you hysterically, and doesn't understand English or any other language?
We have been raising Monarch butterflies so I thought I'd share some pics.

It is so fun and maybe a little sad to watch them flutter away. I hope they make it to a warmer place before the snow flies! As I watch the caterpillars grow and make their chrysalis, then transform into beautiful butterflies, it reminds me that my children are growing and changing so quickly right before my eyes. I treasure each moment with them because I know they will someday flutter away from me. I just hope that when they do, they will flutter back often!

I love this post. What a great picture of you and the kids. It captures the spunk & pizazz of your family. And I know what you mean about being the picture-taker. I always feel dumb asking someone to take a picture of me. Nice butterflies and reflections on life.
I love that picture of Isaac! I can see chaos in his eyes--he's so happy with it. It reminds me of Anderson.
If I looked as good in pictures as you do, I'd train my kids to take the pictures.
That's a great picture of you and your kiddos! I have the same problem - but I'm totally okay with that right now! No pics are good pics. Ellie ingested quite a few box elder bugs at that age. Good luck with your little rascal. He's pretty irresistibly adorable, though.
Oh - and - HA! Edith and I were trying to figure out what that big fluffy monster was. Itty Bitty! I love it!
Poor Itty Bitty, I fear she is not long for this world. Quite the fluffy monster!
As I'm happily reading your blog, Truman is behind me happily eating an empty box. I love that she ate a moth! SWEET! And I love you star! Your comparison of your kids to those beautiful Monarchs... so true. Oh they grow so quickly. I think you should have lee take more pictures of you and your kids, or anyone else who is around. they are such beautiful pictures!
What a great idea to take a photography class with your hubby! That would make for some really fun date nights!!
Good for you with your Nie Recovery donations on your artsy-fartsy blog!! I have been following their story, and am so inspired by her! I wonder who took all of the pictures of her on a day-to-day basis...hmmmm...
My sweet angel has locked me out a few times! One time I got so mad at him he was afraid to unlock the door he went and hid in his bed and fell asleep! I was outside for about an hour (in my jammies!)until a neighbor got home and let me use a ladder to climb in a window!
Hi star! I found your blog through mateo and jodi's blog. I hope you don't mind. Hey, how did you find the monarch caterpillar eggs to raise? I have heard you can find lots of milk weed and eggs in mountain green. I would love to do that with my kids next summer!
Linnea
Hi Linnea,
Thanks for visiting my blog.
It's tricky finding eggs, though we've found a few, we usually get bitty baby caterpillars. There are milkweed patches all over the valley, but the monarchs have grown scarce, there used to be tons, I'm worried about them! I actually planted milkweed in my flower bed a couple years ago to attract them, and this is the first year they have found it. I get some comments on my strange choice of plants, but it make me happy. I'll have to try mountain green, thanks for the tip. Anyway, the hard part is finding the eggs or caterpillars, we just look for nibbled milkweed and they usually aren't far. Once we have them, we put them in our monarch condo which I designed using a small box and an old window screen. Supply the caterpillars with fresh milkweed daily, and clear out poops when you can. I don't let my kids handle them much, it's mainly observational. Soon the full grown caterpillars attach themselves to the top screen, and become a crysalis. Once they emerge in about 2 weeks we let the butterflies wings dry, and usually set them free in about 24 hours on a bright sunny day. The kids love holding them on their finger till they fly away. They are the perfect pet! The whole process lasts about a month, and off they fly. Give me a call next summer, and we can have go on the hunt together, my kids would love that! In the meantime, hold on to any old screens you come across. Thanks, Star
